Painting curator Davide Gasparotto discusses  the work of Jacopo da Pontormo (1494 - 1557), one of the most imaginative Florentine painters and draftsman of the Renaissance. Pontormo executed some of his most memorable portraits, among them the celebrated Halberdier in Getty's  collection, at the end of the 1520's when Florence was experiencing an era of turmoil. Gasparotto considers Pontoromo's relations with his sitters and offers new insights into the artist's distinctive contribution to the history of portraiture.
